About 2nd Chance Christian Academy

Our History

Mr. Benedict P. Bainda, Founder and Proprietor of Second Chance Christian Academy (SCCA), was born in 1962 in Bong County, Liberia. His life has been shaped by faith, perseverance, resilience, and a strong commitment to education and community development. He completed his primary education in Bong Mines, secondary education at Voinjama Multilateral High School, and later graduated from the University of Liberia in 2003.

After surviving a serious illness during Liberia’s civil crisis, Mr. Bainda viewed his survival as a “second chance”—an opportunity to rebuild his life and serve others. While living in Omega Community, Paynesville, he witnessed the educational and economic challenges facing many families and children. Although he initially intended to establish a church, he recognized that education could be a powerful tool for transforming the community. With the support of his family, he established Second Chance Christian Academy.

Despite limited resources, financial difficulties, and infrastructure challenges, Mr. Bainda has remained committed to making quality education accessible to children. His vision is to develop students not only academically, but also in character, discipline, practical skills, confidence, and leadership.

Mr. Bainda believes that transforming education requires partnership. SCCA therefore welcomes support for scholarships, technology and computer laboratories, science equipment, books, infrastructure, sports, teacher training, and practical skills programs.

His long-term vision is to establish SCCA branches across Liberia, reaching more children who lack access to quality and affordable education.

In essence, Mr. Benedict P. Bainda's story is a story of turning personal hardship into opportunity. His “second chance” became a vision to give Liberia's children their own second chance to learn, grow, and become future leaders.
